Hearts Of Darknesses

Rocka-A-Rolla - 2009-03-23

It's awesome how much the coloured and mutant characters found in the narcotic comic art on the cover reflect Hearts Of Darknesses' tripped-out musical gunk.
It's pretty incessant; bratty and fucked up disco pop with a highly experimental edge. Blasé sneers atop squelched basslines, sloppy tambourine action at the back and chuggy keyboards kick things right off on the title track and it doesn´t let up form there in terms of pure gnarlyness, chucking!!!! rhythms into a blender and then drinking those hyper coloured shakes straight down.
Their shtick works terrifically well across this whole wild thing, like ESG turned into robots that malfunctioned in a big way, chrome parts revealing bright light and electricity.
