Cut City

Rocka Rolla - 2009-06-10

There's something in the staccato drums and guitars that kick off Cut City'slatest 12" that signifies something massively teenage. Not in a bad way - even if it's sometimes a little overwrought, they shoot for similar atmospheric heights that M83 channel, only they encase it in a relentless sort of pop/rock, heavy on the drums, guitar, everything really.
Narcissus Can Wait splits time between a couple of ambient tracks and pop songs and it's refreshingly unabashed, ending most successfully on the slow burner 'Xo Echo', fading out a record full of youthful romanticism on a particularly sunset-y note.
